COAL STRIKE AT NEWCASTLE.

Parliamentary Action Foreshadowed. Sydney, November 15. The railways are reducing the bands at New Castle owing to the strike. The Premier, Mr Wade, stated that if the owners and men did not come to a sell lenient to-morrow he would appoint a compulsory tribunal, and, if necessary, pass a Bill through at the one sitting of both Houses to confer the necessary power. The strike is seriously affecting nearly all industries in Sydney and coal has advanced in price. Shipping companies have raised fares and freights. Nearly one hundred vessels are in Newcastle Harbour waiting for coal. Wellington, November 14. Enquiries made in Wellington as to the extent to which New Zealand will he affected by the New South Wales coal strike elicited the statement that no dearth of coal will he experienced here. Dunedin, November 14. Inquiries made in Dunedin regarding the Newcastle strike tend to show that the position is regarded as serious but local supplies are considered sufficient to avert dislocation of trade for some weeks.
