ATHLETIC NOTES.

(Bv Onlooker.)

The Foxton Athletic Club has had their usual hard luck in their sports day having fallen on the roughest day of the month. This body certainly deserves a little better usage from the clerk of the weather, as I believe they have had only one fine day on which to hold their sports since the formation of the club.

The sports are to be continued , on Wednesday next, when the principal events to be decided will be:—Bike events —one mile, half mile, and one and a-half mile ; running events —footballers’ race, ladies’ bracelet (300yds), one mile handicap, and the final distance of the Grand Handicap (rooyds). I think that the event that will create the most interest is the latter, and E. Alzdorf, the local ped., has been doing great things on the cinder track during the last week. He wants only five points to win Messrs Stevens, Easton and Austin’s valuable cup, and if he does not win the 1 ooyds he will have to wait until next year for his winning points. The following is a table of points, and shows how the men stand.: —Alzdorf 15 points, A. W. Hall 10, L. J. Ashworth 5, N. H. McEwen and W. D. Shields '3 each. ' Providing the weather is favourable, local townspeople should turn up in large numbers to see the final events.

The prize-list at present is largely in favour of the local lads. Out of four races they have three firsts and a second. Alzdorf has won the points prize, and Shields only wants to beat McEwen for second place in the 100yds to secure second money in the points prize. Between them they have won £ll 12s in cash.
