TOWN CLERK AND LIBRARIAN.

An Apology Asked for. At the Borough Council meeting on Tuesday night the Clerk reported that on Tuesday, 15th October, the librarian and caretaker came into the public office of the Clerk’s and made use of violent and abusive language, finally telling the Clerk to go to 1) . The expressions were used in the presence of the Clerk’s daughter, and were uttered in consequence of the Clerk failing to immediately give the librarian the name of the writer of a letter complaining about the library not being open at proper hours. The librarian left the office immediately after making use of the expression. The Mayor said the matter was of a serious nature, and the Council must not allow such conduct to continue. The librarian should at least have apologised for his remarks, but he had not done so. Cr Baker suggested that it was a matter for the police to investigate. Cr Stiles said it was a serious offence, but seeing it was the first time such a thing had happened, a substantial apology should meet the case.

Cr Wilson said that if the offender had not been under the influence of Jiquor the words complained of would never have been used. There was not the least fear that the custodian would overstep the bounds again. After further discussion, Cr Stiles moved and Cr Baker seconded, That the Librarian be asked to apologise to the Town Clerk for the language used by him on the date mentioned.

The resolution was carried unanimously.
