“JANE.”

The above farcical comedy was staged in the Town Hall last night by the Levin Amateur Dramatic Company to a bumper house —supposed to be the largest for 14 years. The comedy abounds with laughing situations from the rise to the fall of the curtain, and the appreciative audience did not fail to recognise these as they came round. The comedy consisted of three acts, and a ripple of merriment pervaded the whole piece, in fact, it was one long, continual laugh. The lion's share of the comedy fell to Mr and Mrs Goodall in the respective characters of “William Tipson” and “Jane" (the title role). These two actors showed marked adaptability to their characters, and their acting proved them to be well versed in the very intricate and very amusing situations. As “ Charlie Shackleton,” the spendthrift gentleman. Mr J. Phillips was quite at home, as ■ also were the actors of the minor parts. The whole cast of characters was: “Jane," Mrs Goodall; “ William Tipson," Mr Goodall; Charley Shackleton,” Mr J. Phillips; “ Claude,” MrT. Gressier; “Mr Kershaw," Mr V. Fitzherbert; “Lucy Norton,” Miss B. Fincham; “Mrs Chadwick,” Miss A. Hayes; “Mrs Pixton,” Miss P. Hqyes; “ Mr Pixton,” Mr J. Hazlewood. At a suitable juncture, Mr B. Gower (Mayor) kindly thanked the large audience for their attendance and appreciation that evening, and announced that the company would return to Foxton again On the 21st inst., when he hoped that they would be greeted by another bumper house. It is safe to predict that the company, which has now made such warm friends with the theatre-going public of Foxton, will, on its next appearance here, be supported as loyally as they were last evening, and, indeed, their efforts are well deserving; of the same.
