It is understood that the late Mr Arthur Beverley’s real estate, which has been bequeathed to the Otago University, is of the value of not less than ,£IO,OOO, and is to form a separate trust fund. The University Council is empowered and desired to retain the present investments of the testator as a permanent investment, and to regularly add to the trust fund onetenth of the net income resulting from the estate, the balance, after paying charges, to be used lor the advancement of education in Otago. Preference is expressed for teaching mathematical, mechanical and physicial sciences, and subjects akin thereto, and that natural science be next considered. A desire is also expressed for the founding of a scholarship to encourage and assist young persons of both sexes who have talent and industry, but not wealth. Provision is also made for printing and publishing such ot the testator’s manuscript work as the executors may select for the purpose.
