FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Works to be Undertaken. A meeting of the Public Works Committee was held in the Council Chambers last evening at 7 o’clock. Present: The Mayor, and Crs Baker, Coley, Gray, and Hennessey. The Mayor stated that business to be considered was the question of metalling certain streets unmetalled at present, and called upon Cr Hennessy, as the mover of a resolution at the last meeting of the Council, to state his views. Cr Hennessy said that roads of the boroueh were not complete until a few short streets were formed and metalled, and he hoped to see it done shortly. He asked the Town Clerk if it would not be possible to raise a small loan to carry out this work, without taking a poll, etc. The clerk said a poll would have to be taken, but suggested that the work might be done in March next, so that the payment would come into the following year, and thus do the work out of general revenue, without putting the ratepayers to the expense of a poll. After some further discussion, and going into figures to ascertain the estimated cost of the proposed work, the following resolution was passed: “That the Public Works Committee recommend, the Council to form and metal Eiddell Street, Ravensworth Place, Gladstone Street, Heta Street, and Putter Street, out of general revenue next year. ’ ’ The Committee rose at 9 p.m.
