FIRE.
Mr Starck’s Studio Destroyed.
At about 3.30 this morning an alarm was sounded on the fire bell. The scene of the conflagration was Mr Starck’s photographic studio, in Park Street. The building which was only a small one, was hedged between a two storeyed building occupied as a Chinese laundry ani the Gospel Hall. Had the building destroyed been two storeys instead of one, nothing could have saved the adjoining structures. In fact it is nothing short of a miracle that they were not razed. Willing helpers did what they could to keep the flames within bounds. Mr Starck had an insurance of on his stock and he assesses his loss at above that amount. The building was owned by Mrs R. E. Giay and was valued at £125 upon which there was no insurance. Mr Starck can give no reason for the outbreak. He was developing plates in the studio last night and when he left, everything hp-: peared to be safe.
