Berlin, October 5. It is reported that the Government purposes increasing the silver currency to the extent of 15 million sterling. It is also reported that Germany completely recasts the plans of the fortifications in Alsace Lorraine, owing to the present plans having been sold to France. As the Government vards ares, overworked, Germany has distributed to private yards orders for new warships, wherefore the expenditure authorised last session, aggregating 7 millions ingSocialists are organising a three months’ campaign, and raising a fund for the purpose.
Newspapers direct attention to the great increase of prices of household and food stuffs, and predict privations in the winter. London, October 5.
The Standard’s Berlin correspondent reported that at Essen, Krupp’s are discharging 3000 workmen owing to decreased orders.
