SHOCKING FATALITY.

Auckland, Yesterday. Henry Noton, an elderly man, who resided with Mr and Mrs Douglas at Ponsonby, met his death last night under shocking circumstances. Noton, who is 65 years old, had suffered from dropsy, and last night was visited by several relatives. About two this morning Mrs Douglas heard a noise and found Noton’s room full of smoke. Noton was prone on the hearth with his head in the fire. Medical aid was promptly obtained, but death had supervened. The unfortunate man had evidently been seized with sudden faintness when sitting before the fire.
