MANAWATU A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
The Manawatu Agricultural 7 Show to be held at Palmerston N. on the 30th and 31st October and Ist November, possesses- very strongly those essential features, which, in the eyes of the farmer and breeder, are necessary to ensure a great show of pure-blood stock, but also to be sufficiently attractive over the show period to be popular with the public. The huge attendance of some 40,000 at this three days’ .fixture, is a confirmation of its exceptional popularity. How it is achieved, nay be gathered by the very liberal support afforded to the live stock division, the bulwark of an agricultural show. Probably horses afford most fascination and pleasure to the general public, recognising this, the sum. of besides cups and medals, is scheduled. All the popular classes for saddle and harness horses and ponies are richly catered for. Thus the show executive have always recognised the desire of the public to witness real good hunting and riding events, a . reputation for which the Palmerston Show is unexcelled, as also for the big stands, which accommodate some 5006 X. people facing the show ring. No wonder then, the four ladies classes are allotted ,£4O, gentlemen riders £72 in three classes with a fifty guineas challenge cup. Much more might be written of the horse division, but to pass on to the cattle and sheep schedule, which doubtless appeal more to the pocket of the man on the land. Herein is a dominant feature of this Association’s liberality in building up a great live stock exhibition wherein the cream of pure blooded animals are eoncentrated annually. Cattle are apportioned some besides the Association’s champion medals and the N.Z. Jersey Cattle ■ Breeders’ gold medals, and sheep /410 in prizes besides the specials of the New Zealand Romney Marsh Sheep Breeders’ Association N.Z. Sheep Breeders Association and ( several valuable silver Cups. Pigs 1. are figured for in six It will be seen that for horses, cattle, sheep and pigs, the sum of in cash is offered not including a large number of medals and cups. Many other divisions are maintained for dogs, poultry, home industries, schools and fine arts to which several hundred pounds are allotted. For a full schedule enquiries should be addressed to the Secretary, Mr J. C. Fane, P.O. Box 85, Palmerston North.
