MUNICIPAL ELECTION.
The burgesses will be called upon next Monday to make choice between Messrs F. W. Jenks and A. E. Shadbolt as their representative on the Council to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Cr Austin. Both candidates are wellknown to burgesses and have previously sat'at the Council table. Mr Shadbolt was an aspirant for the Mayoral chair at-the last elec-
should poll well on this occasion but in our opinion he will have to put forth his best efforts to keep astride of bis doughty opj onent, who is held in very high esteem as a townsman. Asked 'by our representative this morning whether he would make a special effort to capture the seat, Mr Jenks replied characteristically “No, the people know me, if they went me I am willing to serve them but I will not ask a vote from any man. ’’ We hope tRe voters will set aside sentiment and return the candidate whom they consider the best qualified to safeguard their interests.
