Nelson, September 21
A wind storm of unprecedented velocity swept over Takaka in the early hours of yesterday morning. A large new two-storey building in the main street, which was being erected by Smith and Co. as a sash and door factory, completely collapsed, and is now aheap of ruins. The building was roofed, and the external walls almost complete, and in the painters’ hands. Machinery and engines were installed and in daily use. The machinery was not much damaged, but the loss of timber, roofing, and labour is estimated at over ,£IOO.
