DOMINION DAY.

The following telegram from the Premier has been received by the Mayor of Foxton “ All Mayors of Boroughs: It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the notification of the chance of name from the ‘ Colony of New Zealand ’ to the ‘ Dominion of New Zealand ’ was gazetted yesterday and takes effect on and from Thursday. 26th inst. The day will be proclaimed a Government holiday throughout the Dominion and all Government offices will be closed and in order that it may be celebrated in a fitting manner your hearty co-operation is requested to assist in making the day a memorable one. With this end in view I trust you will see your way to proclaim the day a full holiday in your town. The Government is requesting Education Boards throughout the country to arrange for school children to have a holiday. During the afternoon parade of the local and district volunteers where such can be arranged w'ill take place and the officer commanding the district has been instructed to confer with you and to fall in with any arrangements for the day you may 7 desire to make. Further particulars will be telegraphed you in due course.
