MONTGOMERY’S ENTERTAINERS.

To-night.

The above company, who give their performance in the Public Hall to-night, give a first-class all round show, as may be gleaned from the following clipping : —A picture of a fascinating kind was that of the “ Carnival of Nice,” in which the gaieties of the occasion are pourtrayed with life-like effect ; the lovely and the protesque, lighthearted frivolity and heavy clownery are shown by this splendid film, which to many would make quite an enjoyable show in itself. In the second part of the programme came what was generally considered the great event of the evening, the representation of the sculling match for the championship of the world. It was, in fact, a double tion, with two sets of pictures taken from different viewpoints, showing the enormous crowds that lined the river bank, in addition to closely giving the race itself. There was an enthusiastic cheer as Webb steadily drew ahead of his rival ; the various stages of the race were keenly followed, and the finish, with the New Zealander away to the front, evoked much cheering. This .picture should in itself each night draw a crowd of these desirous of witnessing the race as depicted in th? films. A very-fine picture, of the pathetic order, was that of an orphan girl, lelt friendless and hungry, being enticed into a den of thieves, and forced to go out pocket-picking ' her arrest leads to her being taken to a bright and happy home, and eventually to the capture of the gang. Among the comic pictures was that of ‘‘Three ha’porths of leeks,” in which a thirsty husband has many exciting experiences during his marketing expedition. Tickets may be secured at Mr Levett’s.
