Cleraenceau, French Premier, in the course of an interview, stated that “ The Government has requested General Drude to take offensive measures in Morocco, but without indicating any definite operations ; inasmuch as we are not competent to indicate our programme.’’ M. Clemenceau added: “It is known we desire rapid but limited operation, leaving no doubt of its offensive character.” Morocco, September 11. A French war balloon discovered 1000 reinforced Arabs at Casablanca. The Arabs believed the balloon to be a large tent fixed in the air. General Drude (commanding the French forces) will advance on the tribes as soon as he has recovered from an attack of fever.
