A schoolmaster was handed the following note by one of lis pupils. “Dear Sir, Pleese ekccose Tommy for his absens yestiday, as lie waz kwite il, an the docter lolled me to kepe him in bed. So I let him stay 'at ome.—Yours resptively, Misses Smith.” The master was a trifle suspicious.
“Tommy,” said he, sternly, “ who wrote that note?”
“My—er—mother did, if yon please, sir.” “Well, I must say that some of that spelling is remarkably like the spelling you give me.” The little fellow was equal to the occasion.
“Yes, sir,” he said, cheerfully; “everyone says that, as far as spellin’ is concerned, I’m the dead image of my mother.”
