MOROCCO.
Morocco, August 31. Two companies of the French Foreign Legion were suprised and surrounded by twelve hundred Moors at the rear of Casablanca. The French had with them two-field-pieces, and were accompanied by fifty Spanish troops. The Moors suffered heavy losses while making successive desperate rushes at close quarters. Eventually, after the arrival of reinforcements, the F'rench dispersed the Moors. During the fighting the French had three men killed and nine wounded.
Man} r hundreds of Arabs joined in with the Moors, who first commenced the attack, and their mobility ot action was such that they seldom presented a target of any size for the French to direct their fire upon. Altogether the French troops were kept on the move for 24 hours, the tribes adopting new tactics. They abstained in most instances from charging in large masses, and showed a wide formation.
