ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
PaemerSTOn, September i. About 10 o’clock this morning a married woman named Hannah O’Connor was seen bj 7 two men to take a header off the Fitzherbert bridge into the Manawatu river. She floated down with the current for a little distance, finally bringing up.among some trees growing from the bank. From this position she was pulled out by the t\Vo men, who had witnessed the occurence. She was then taken in charge by the police, who, in the meantime, had been sent for. The woman, who is about fifty years old, lived with her husband in Palmerston. She left her home about 9 o’clock this morning, telling her husband that she was going up to town. It is difficult to assign a reason for the act, but it is understood that the woman had been suffering from her head. She came to no harm.
