AUCKLAND ASSAULT CASE.
Auckland, September 2
Edward McDonald was charged at the Police Court this morning with assaulting Thomas Rowe, a fellow-employee, at the Travellers’ Club, on August 24th, with a file. Rowe, a waiter, said that _ for some time there had been a little bad blood between them, because of some dispute. Witness was standing in a passage when he met McDonald, who made a remark or two which caused witness to strike him in the face. McDonald pulled a file out of his pocket and ran at him. Witness put up his hand to save himself, and was caught by the file on the wrist. When McDonald rushed at him he cried: ‘‘You , I’ll murder you.” Witness turned and fled upstairs, but the other man overtook him and stabbed him again on the left shoulder. In cross examination, witness demed that he was intoxicated or that he had provoked the accused. Accused, who reserved his defence, was committed tor trial, bail being allowed in the sum of £IOO.
