ALLEGED ASSAULT.
Marton, Thursday. A young woman living at Marton. while returning from a visit to friends, was brutally assaulted near Kakariki bridge yesterday afternoon and kicked about in a cold-blooded manner by a . man. believed to be a native. She was rendered unconscious, aud afterwards, was found wandering about in a paddock in a dazed condition with her face so much swollen that she was unable to see for some time. She has little recollection of what occurred.
Mr W. Nye, of Park Street, advertisers for the owner of a lost collie dog. A nasty accident occurred at Gisborne on Thursday afternoon during a football match between the Gisborne Junior representatives and the Thursday trade team. In a loose forward rush, a player named D. Porter, a wellknown jockejq fell, and another player fell on him. A loud crack was heard. Dr. Scott was summoned, and found that Porter’s leg was broken below the knee.
