Auckland, August 28. The Nora Niven’s trawling between Napier and Auckland appears to have been very satisfactory. Between Napier and Portland Island, in 82 fathoms, very good fish were found. Just north of the Table Cape results were not so good. Trawling was continued from a point of six miles West of Hast Cape till Saturday, with an average of about three trawls daily, the water ranging from too to 3-, latboms deep. The fishing was remarkably good, chiefly teribiki andschnapper being taken. The trawler leaves to-day for the Bay ot Plenty and Mercury Bay. Knox Church has extended a call to the Rev. Alex. Whyte, of Havelock, Hawke’s Bay. Wanganui, August 28.
At the Police Court this morning a baker was fined £s and costs on a charge of having deposited on his premises for sale 621 b of unwholesome butter unfit for human consumption. The butter had been purchased for 8d a pound, and was kept in a trapshed alongside the stable. Invercargill, August 28. John Pritchard, married, about 70, committed suicide at Waikiwi to-day blowing the top of bis head off with a gun. Deceased was a small farmer and bad been in illhealth. Taihape, August 28. A child named William Goodwin, aged three years, was found drowned yesterday in a creek at Utiku. Auckland, August 28. At noon to-day George Perry, aged sixty, sat down at a table in a restaurant which he had frequented for the last eight or nine years. He gave his order, then suddenly lurched forward, and died before the services of a doctor could be obtained. The cause of death was apparently hemorrhage.
