ON THE TRACK OF THE QUACK.
Quacks and quack medecines are being very closely watched by the member for Wairarapa. says the : Wairarapa Daily News., In the House . .recently Mr Hornsby .asked the Government whether -they were aware that the Yonkerman Company was again advertising -in the. Wellington Press, and if they .would take steps ,to have all correspondence' ~ addressed to the Yonkerman Company brought uncfor, thq, provisions, of the Post Office 'AffiCfidhfonl: Act of 1906? In reply’'the*Minister stated that the Yonkerman Company was .already, on -the, list,of. individuals and firms "whose letters are prohibited- frpfd transmission, through tbe post.’ s ’ niaiter was one of public imPfJftance, the Minister appended a copy of a report from the New South Wales Government analyst on Yonkerman’s " Tuberculozyne,” which bad recently been- received. The report was as follows: —‘‘ I am of opinion that ‘ Tuberculozyne ’is a cruel fraud intended or calculated to extort money from persons suffering from phthisis, and is no more value than water from Sydney harbour would be if bottled and labelled in-a similar manner. Sixpence would, in my opinion, be a liberal estimate of the value of the mixture.” There is no doubt that a greater number of quack "remedies,” with attractive names draw thousands of pounds annually from the pockets ot a deluded public, and it is a good thing that --such bogus preparations should be relentlessly exposed on every possible occasion. • The New South Wales analyst has .effectively killed ‘‘Tuberculozyne”in. Australia, and it is satisfactory that the result of his investigation is now published in New Zealand.
