S.M. COURT.
[Before Mr A. D. Thompson, S.M.] The following civil cases were heard at the S.M. Court yesterday : W. Bullard v. F. Nye, claim £i 5s 6d, costs 9s ; G. Brewer v. V. R. Baldwin, claim £2 ros, costs 10s , B. Smith v. W. Hutana, claim £2 14s 6d, costs 16s 6d ; R. Moore v. Poreana Heta, claim £i 3s Bd, costs £1 os 6d ; in this case the defendant stated that this debt was owing by two other natives and that he had paid his share to Mr Moore, £5, last Christmas and he did not see why he should be compelled to pay the others’ proportion. The S.M. said that as he was a partner he was responsible, and that he could sue the other natives for the of this amount. The case M. E. Dunn (Mr R. Moore) v. H. Evans (Mr G, Moore) was struck out, owing to the plaintiff’s non-appearance. Defendants solicitor was allowed costs amounting to £2 2s. Ten civil cases were settled out of court.
