The Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 1907. SCHOOL MATTERS.

Much of our space is taken up today with school matters. We feel it incumbent upon us to satisfy and enlighten the public on the vexed question of classification. The headmaster has full power to classify the scholars and is answerable to the Inspector alone. We feel sure that parents and Committee will now rest satisfied that Mr Adams has done his duty'. It is not his wish ; that any child should be hampered in life’s battle by reason of a ricketty education. It is apparent that he has now “ set his house in order” and parents who grumbled yesterday will have cause to thank him for his thoroughness in the days to come. We congratulate those Committee men who refused to support Mr Hennessy’s amendment that the Committee should resign. The

Committee, as Mr Wilson rightly pointed out, have a duty to perform to the householders who elected them. . Now that the clouds have dispersed we hope everything will settle down quietly and our school will in time become second to none in the Wanganui Education District. Householders will regret to learn of the resignation of Mr Clemett as Chairman of the Committee. In the past he has devoted much time and evinced great interest in the welfare of the school, but his duties as a public servant and indifferent health compel him to withdraw. He has been an excellent Chairman and has earned the thanks of the community. In the future we feel sure the Committee will do its part within its sphere towards the good and efficient government of the school, and parents can rest satisfied that the headmaster will do his, and finally, that petty and mischief-making complaints will cease.
