——- Auckland, August 15
What appears to be a case of suicide occixrred this morning in a boarding house in Hobson Street. A remittance man, John Cockburn Owen Bassett, about forty years of age, was discovered dead in bed. On a table beside him was a glass, the contents of which are supposed to have been a mixture containing cyanide of potassium. A bottle containing a quantity of the same mixture was in the room, while on the floor was a wrapper with the name of the poison upon it. Bassett was last seen alive between 2 and 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon, when he was seen going into his bedroom. Dunedin, August 15. In the Divorce Court to-day, in the suit William Scott v. Betsy Weir Scott, a decree was granted for restitution of conjugal rights. A similar order was made in the suit John McCulloch v, Margaret Brown McCulloch. Both suits were undefended.
