BAND ACCOUNTS.
To the Editor. Sir.—l notice by your report of Monday’s Borough Council meeting that Cr Coley tried to force an account on the Council that is owing by the band in connection with the recent bazaar to an “individual.” I think the public should know the name of the “individual.” Does Cr Coley know that he and the other members of the Council are the trustees 'of the ratepayers and have no right to spend the people’s money to settle the Band’s debts. Why did Cr Coley while he was on the job not mention two other band accounts which were unsettled and which have been owing before the bazaar one ? I know to whom the money is owing by the Band, and I think, Sir, you ought to mention the name and show the items. I am as much a supporter of the band as Cr Coley is. but I object to him making flesh of one and fish of another. Perhaps Cr Coley, who appears to bully the Council as he thinks fit, will give the Athletic Club a lift by asking the Council to spend a few pounds on the track in the park, which would be a more legitimate way of spending the people’s money than endeavouring to square the account mentioned. Thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc., Glory Hole.
