MORE SERIOUS FIGHTING IN MOROCCO.
Morocco, August xo. During the bombardment of Casablanca, hordes ol Moors assailed the British Consulate. The stall, assisted by a French officer and twelve seaman, with Mr Kerr, a medical missionary, and Mr C. K. Hands, war correspondent, made a gallant defence. At one moment the situation was so critical that the Consul burned the Government cipher books. The main French force, under General Drude, encamped outside the town, repulsed an attack by 6000 tribesmen. During the fighting 2000 Moors were killed. Paris, August 9. It is recognised in France that the Moroccan affair is bigger than was expected, but the nation is firmly determined to see it through. Morocco, August 10. The Khama tribesmen have promised to release Kaid Maclean, but decline to arrest Raisuli, though they are willing to compel him to leave their territory.
