A BAND AFFAIR.
At last night’s Council meeting Cr Coley handed in an account from a citizen who had supplied goods,, etc. for the recent Band Bazaar and for which he had not received payment. The late Band Secretary had mysteriously disappeared and had appropriated the which should have been paid to individual referred to. He was of opinion that seeing the Council had possession of the Band uniforms and intruments and taking into consideration what the individual had done in the wa} 7 of assisting the Band at its recent Bazaar, the Council should pay theamount. The Mayor said the Council had not authorised the purchase of goods nor could anyone say the Council owed the money. Cr Coley said the account bad been rendered to the Council previously but had been returned. Cr Gray moved and Cr Coley seconded that a donation of be made to the Band funds. Cr Baker objected to granting a donation without being asked for same. He thought the Baud should approach the Council for a grant. Cr Gray said a musician had just come to Foxton who would undertake the duties of bandmaster. A Cr Henuessy objected to the ac- / count being sent to the Council. Cr Stiles moved and Cr Baker seconded an amendment as follows : , That on an application being received from the Band asking for a donation to help them to meet their special emergency, the Council will favourably consider same. —The amendment on being put was declared carried. The voting was as follows ; For the amendment, Crs Hennessy, Stiles, Baker and the Ma3 7 or ; against: Crs Coley, Wilson and Gray.
