The Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, 1907. AN APPEAL FOR FUNDS.
The Secretary of the Victoria College Gymnasium Committee desires us to make an appeal for funds in this district to provide a gymnasium and social room. The College Council and the Professorial Board have shown themselves deeply interested in the proposal, and the sum of nearly is now in hand. This is largely due to the generosity of an anonymous friend of the College, who contributed the sum of ,£250. His Excellency Lord Plunket was' also kind enough to give a substantial donation. Before the building can be commenced, an additional sum of at least must.be obtained, and a committee has been set up with the object of collecting the required amount. The Victoria University District consists of the old Provincial Districts —Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Wellington, Marlborough, Westland, and Nelson —and students from each of these districts share the advantages which the University College affords. The Committee believes that the College has become one of which the whole district has reason to be proud, and believes that many gentlemen, representatives of the districts outside Wellington City, will join in helping a work which will be of especial benefit to students whose homes are not in Wellington. Subcriptions may be sent to Mr W. Perry, care of E. J. Fitzgibbon, solicitor, Wellington.
