FOXTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The usual monthly meeting of the above Committee was held on Thursday evening. Present — Messrs A, D. Clemett (chair), P. Hennessy, M. Perreau, Baker, Betty, Gray, Coley, Wilson. Mr L- Wilson acted as Secretary owing to Mr F. W. Frankland being unable to attend through illness. The headmaster’s report showed a roll number of 274. The balancesheet of the recent concert by the children showed a credit balance of 19s, with which it is the master’s intention to purchase a sewing machine and library. Re the shelter shed which Mr Adams wished removed to the back of the new residence, it was proposed by Mr Wilson, seconded by Mr Clemett, that this matter, together with footpath to school door, be left ip the hands of a subcommittee comprising Messrs P. Hennessy, Coley, and Gray to report upon next meeting.— Carried. Several small accounts were passed for payment. Mrs Aldridge was granted exemption for her two children. In reference to Mr Adams’ letter complaining of dancing class being contrary to rules 92, 93, 94, it was decided to inform him that the rules did not apply to the old ischool building. A letter from Miss McMillan re position as teacher in technical school was held over.

Mr H. Amos wrote stating that he was willing to give the Committee any assistance in starting a technical school, and hoped that a few classes would be formed. ■ Messrs Gray and Hennessy mentioned that they had received several complaints of children being put back to lower classes. Mr Gray stated that many children,- were leaving the school in consequence of this, and he thought this state of things was very unsatisfactory to parents. Proposed by Mr Wilson and seconded by H. Baker, that Mr Adams be invited to attend the next meeting, when this matter would be dealt with, with the chance of an explanatory reply from Mr Adams.—Carried. After considerable debate on Technical Education it was proposed by Mr P. Hennessy and sebonded by Mr George Coley, that the matter of technical, education and general be adjourned until 15th inst.—Carried. , A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the business.
