WATER SUPPLY.
To the Editor. Sir, —As astronomers predict a very dry season, and already many of our tanks are dry, it would be as well for us to take into consideration the best means of procuring a good and efficient water supply for the township, both for fire purposes and for general use. In the last number of the Weekly Press there is an illustration of the first pipe being driven for a high pressure water suppty for Christchurch city, which will be carried out on the same hues as I proposed in one of my letters for Foxton, viz., pumping from one or more artesian wells to a sufficiently high level to give a good force of water through the water mains running through the township, but with this difference, that their scheme may cost over ,£20,000, while ours will only cost about £■3ooo, as the distance and size of our pipes is much less than theirs. Had they thought it advisable to go to the bills for their water supply they could have done so, but doubtless the cost would have been excessive, and the same applies to us, but even in a much greater degree, as our population is not to be compared with theirs. Trusting others will interest themselves on this vital question.—l am, etc., Acquarius.
