THE LOCAL BUILDING TRADE.

The building trade in Foxton at present is very brisk, and promises to continue so. During the past six months houses have sprung up in all parts of the borough, some of them of a very imposing nature, particularly that of Mr Brewer’s in the vicinity of the rope works. Most of the jobs are let by private tender, the builder acting in the dual capacity of architect and carpenter. Most of the buildings in course of erection are confined to local builders. Mr Cleraett’s new residence off Liddel St. is a vety imposing structure, and is just now receiving the finishing touches. It was designed by the owner, and built by Mr Rimmer. Messrs Levin and Co.’s mammoth dumping sheds, jetty, etc., are progressing rapidly towards completion. This is the largest building contract as yet carried out in Foxton. The architect is Mr J. W. Rough, and the builders Messrs Young and Petley, of Wellington. Mr Rimraer is erecting a nice villa residence in Norbiton Rd. for Mr Chas. Collius, and further along Mr Theo. Easton has almost completed a fine dwelling for Mr Siguall; Mr J. W. Rough is responsible for the design. Mr Rimmer commenced the erection of a residence in the Avenue on Tuesday, for Mr Levett. Mr Ward has the schoolmaster’s new residence well advanced, and is busy with the erection ot a dwelling in Thynne St., for Mr Goddin. Messrs Speirs have completed a residence in Park St., and have another in course of erection in Liddell St., for Mr Bock. Mr Ward has the residence of Mr Mowatt well in hand in Purcell St., designed by Mr J. W. Rough. Tenders will shortly be called by Mr J. W. Rough for the erection of a two-storeyed building in Main St., for Mr M. Perreau, and several other dwellings will be commenced in the course of a few weeks in different parts of the borough. To-day tenders are called for repairs and painting to the local Courthouse.
