Cruise of Battleships.
The San Francisco Prosecutions.
New York, July 6
Washington advices admit that a fleet of sixteen battleships, under Admiral Evans, sails for the Pacific, via Cape Horn, early in the autumn.
President Roosevelt states that this step has been contemplated for two years, and the the plan has no relation to the trouble which has arisen with Japan. It is intended to promote effective drill, and to solve coaling problems.
The Attorney-General (the Hon. Chas. J. Bonaparte) has instructed the United States District Attorney at San Francisco, and his assistant, to associate themselves with counsel for the Japanese restaurant keepers, in . the claim brought by the latter against' the San Francisco civic authorities,.'for damage sustained by the restaurants through riots.
