Captured by a Brigand.
Morocco, July 3

London, July 3
Reuter’s agency states that Raisuli will make his own terms for Sir Harry Maclean’s release and for his own pardon. Morocco, July 4.
Raisuli had refused to receive letters from the Sultan unless Kaid Maclean personally delivered them unaccompanied by troops.
Kaid Maclean and four followers visited Raisuli’s camp, when he was informed that he would be detained until all Raisuli’s demands had been granted.
[Raisuli has for some years occupied a prominent place in the affairs of Morocco. In May, 1904, he sprang into notice as the capturer of Mr Peidicaris, an American citizen, ot Tangier, and Mr Varley, his son-in-law, who were carried into the mountains The brigand leader was then quite able to dictate terras (as it is said he will do now), for his conditions for the release of his captives—conditions which were agreed to — included the payment of as ransom, the release of all members of Raisuli’s tribe who were in prison, and the dismissal of the Governor of Tangier—a gentleman who was the unfortunate subject of Raisuli’s disapproval.
Kaid Sir Harry Maclean is colonel of the Sultan’s bodyguard. He is fifty-nine years of age. For many years he has been one of the Sultan’s chief advisers.]
Later. London, July 4. It is understood that Sir Edward Grey is already pressing the Sultan of Morocco to obtain Kaid Sir Harry Mac Lean’s release.
The Times states that Sir H. Mac Lean is imprisoned in a village of Khama’s tribe, 45 miles from Tangiers, and there is reason to believe that ■ he is not being well treated. Raisuli demands an appointment to the Governorship and a large ransom.
