TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
The establishment of a technical school in Foxton has been under consideration by the local School Committee for some time and is now about to take definite shape. A public meeting, convened by the Mayor, will be held in the Public Hall this evening. As a result of a deputation of school committeemen, the Borough Council voted a grant of £5 towards the establishment of the school during Mayor Simpson’s term of office. At the last annual meeting of householders the Chairman mentioned that this important subject would be vigorously tackled by the incoming committee. This is borne out by the convening of to-night’s meeting. The Committee has arranged with Mr Amos, the Board’s instructor, to explain the whole subject to householders and parents. Among the subjects taught are shorthand, typewriting, woodwork, gardening, cooking, dressmaking, etc. We hope every parent who can make it convenient will attend.
