Awahou and Sandon seniors try conclusions on the local racecourse this afternoon. The Professional Team. Wellington June 28. Mr Baskiville, hon. secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Football Club, in conversation with a Post reporter, stated that there was no truth in the report telegraphed from Dunedin that George Smith, of Auckland, had been offered the captaincy of the All Black professional team. He also denied the statement that Australia was being looked to for backs. According to Mr Baskiville, more good New Zealand backs than are required have offered, in some cases voluntarily, to go to England if finally selected.
