PRESBYTERIAN SOCIAL.
The first of a series of socials to be held under the auspices of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild, took place in the Masonic Hall last evening, and was well attended, a most enjoyable time being spent. A capital vocal and instrumental programme was arranged by Misses Ross and Furrie, and games were indulged in between the items, which, judging by the merry peals of laughter, were thoroughly enjoyed. The special attraction in the vocal efforts was the singing of Miss Moir, who is a ' visitor to Foxton. This young lady possesses a cultured and mellow messo - soprano, of medium range, with clear enunciation, and an absence of affectation. Her efforts were vociferously encored. She rendered the following items ; “Kathleen Mavourneen,’’ “Cornin’ thro’the Rye,” Tosti’s “Goodbye.” The other contributors to the programme were; Miss Furrie, pianoforte solo ;a Mr and Miss Cargill, instrumental duet; Mr G. O. Barber, two rollicking nautical songs; Miss Aitken, “The Old and the New,” and “The Auld Scotch Sangs ” ; Mr Clarice, a humourous recitation ; Miss Barnard, recitation; Miss Cargill, “ Robin Adair Mr Tait, pianoforte solo. The accompaniments were played by Miss Furrie. A button-sewing competition for the gentlemen created much excitement, and was won by Mr Fred Collius; the “booby” prize was
won by Mr . Refreshments were provided in abundance, and much appreciated.
The next social of the series will take place on Tuesday, July 16th.
