THE NIGHTSOIL AREA.
At Monday night’s Borough Council meeting a ratepayer, who lives within a stone’s throw of the night soil area, asked that his residence, which is easy of access, be included. The request was not received favourably by certain Councillors on the grounds that the sanitation area had been defined and the rate struck ; also, that it would be creating a bad precedent as others would make similar applications who lived in out of the way parts of the borough. The request was, however, held over till next meeting- We would urge upon the Council the necessity of carefully weighing this matter before officially committing itself. There is an anomaly in the bylaws, the Public Health Act, must not be set aside, and lastly, the Council must not take money out of general revenue to meet a deficiency in the sanitary rate. We mention these points in order that the Council may give the matter mature consideration.
