TECHNICAL EDUCATION.
Deputation Waits on the Mayor. The Chairman of the local School Committee and Mr Perreau waited upon the Mayor last night, with a request that he would convene a public meeting for the purpose of establishing a technical school in Foxton. Mr Clemett explained that a previous mayor had promised to call a meeting, but the matter had been hung up. /120 would have to be found locally, before the school could be founded, and then the Government would grant a subsidy. Mr Clemett stated that it was proposed to raise this sum by public subscriptions, etc. The school would be under the control of the local School Committee with the addition [of two other citizens. If the Mayor would fix the date of the public meeting, Mr Clemett said he would communicate with Mr Varney, the Board’s instructor, who would attend and address the meeting.
The Mayor promised the deputation that he would call the meeting as desired, and the deputation thanked the Mayor and retired.
