CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A meeting of the Council of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was held in the Secretary’s office on Thursday evening. Present: Messrs Morgan (President), Hennessy, Perreau, Rae-Howard (Secretary), and Dr Mandl. Proposed by Mr Hennessy, and seconded by Mr Perreau, That the Secretary write to the Lands Department stating that Pilot Hall can inform the Department who burnt the trees and lupins at the Sanatorium during the month of April, and request the Department to take steps to have this wanton destruction stopped. (Carried). Proposed by the President, and seconded by Dr Mandl, That the President, Vice-President and Secretary approach the Mayor and Schoolmaster re the matter of tree planting at the Pleads on Arbor Day.—(Carried.) Proposed by Mr Perreau, and seconded by Dr Mandl, That the President approach the Presidents of Palmerston North and Feilding Chambers of Commerce, with a view to arranging a conference to discuss port matters (Carried). Five new members were elected, and the meeting then rose.
