THE HOLIDAY.

The weather for yesterday’s holiday in this district was overcast, and a slight shower fell late in the afternoon. A large number of local 1 ‘ sports ’ ’ departed by the morning train in order to attend the races at Otaki, Others took advantage of the cheap railway fares. The shooting partes were busy duck shooting at the numerous lagoons and the popping of guns could be heard in all directions. The town presented quite a deserted appearance.
