THIRTY THOUSAND REBELS.

Movement against Chinese Government. Pekin, May 29. The rebels near Swatow (a sea port of Kwangtung, with considerable foreign trade) captured a brigadier-general’s family and compelled them to commit suicide by drowning themselves in wells. The rebels (who number about thirty thousand) have issued a proclamation which declares that the object of the rising is to exterminate officials and overthrow\ the Government and that it is not directed against foreigners or ordinary citizens. The Canton authorities have sent troops.
