HOME RULE.
London, May 25. The ‘‘ Sinn Fein ” newspaper savagely attacks Mr John Redmond, leader of the Nationalist party in the House of Commons, declaring that he has ceased to be a leader of the Irish people.
“ Sinn Fein ” (a phrase equivalent to “ Ourselves alone ”) is the watchword of the Gaelic League, founded in 1893. The objects of the League, of which Dr Douglas Hyde, the well-known Irish historian, poet and folk-lorist, has been president since its inception, are stated briefly as follows : —lt is preparing the mind of the country for that supreme effort that will lead to the final triumph of the Gael. Although a nonpolitical organisation and acting strictly within the existing law, it is steadily creating the conditions that will make a free Ireland possible.” In 1906 the league established the newspaper *• Sinn Fein,” to propagate its ideas and aims. The journal, a penny weekly, is published in Dublin.
