The Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, MAY 23, 1907. HOME RULE.

An anli-Home Rule meeting was held in the Wellington Town Hull on Tuesday evening last, and was of a very rowdy nature. Cheers were called for Mr Devlin and the Pope. The meeting was addressed by the Rev. Mr Watt. A young lady who recited an anti-Home Rule item had a warm reception. Whili; sympathising with Home Rule, we are of opinion that such foolish opposition will only tend to alienate sympathy from the cause. There are two sides to every question, and as a fair hearing was given to the Home Rulers, the snme British sense of fair play should have been accorded to the other side. The sectarian element should also be religiously eschewed at the meetings. The Wellington meeting has, unfortunately, stirred up bitterness.
