The Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, MAY 14, 1907. FOXTON TRAIN SERVICE.

“The recent interruption of inland traffic with Foxton accentuates the importance of a connecting link with the Sandon tramway to Feeding (says the Feiiding Star), for while the vicinity of Oroua Bridge is noted for ■ its frequent floods, there would be no danger of interruption of traffic on a line from Foxton, via Carnarvon and Feiiding. The distance would be shorter than by way cf Palmerston, and in everyway the route would be a good one for heavy traffic. At tbe present time, we understand, there is an enormous quantity of goods stored up at Foxton, awaiting transit inland, and the loss and inconvenience to importers must be very great indeed. We feel sure that the idea of a connecting line is a feasible one, that. the traffic would justify its construction, and that it would tap a large area of country at present without such means of communication. While it is not probable, we are informed, that Government would be willing to allow such a line to be constructed as a competitor to the present Foxton - Palmerston section, that is no reason why the work should not be carried out by the G.overyment itself. We hope that represfatatipjjs will be made with

a view of having a preliminary survey of the route made and investigations set on foot with the idea of ascertaining the cost and feasibility of the project.” Settlers throughout this district will not fall in with the Star’s suggestion. The Sanson tramway will be used in due time for other purposes than at present, but it will not juncture with Feilding. The cut that the settlers desire and which will be of Colonial importance is to connect the Manawatu and Main Trunk Tine, junctioning at Marton.
