LOCAL ENTERPRISE.

A thorough up-to-date billiard saloon has just been completed in Clyde St, for Mr W. Hamer. The materials used throughout are of the best. The length of the building is 65ft x 23ft, and the measurements of the different rooms are ; Commercial or social room, 12ft xx Bft; billiard room, 23ft x 43ft; two ante - rooms, 1 ift x each. The ceilings are lofty, and the rooms are built without a single join showing. The main room will contain two of Alcock’s best tables, which are to be mounted on concrete foundations, accompanied with marking boards. Raised platforms and upholstered seats run down each side of the room, and the floors throughout the building are to be covered with dark green linoleum with felt underneath. The windows are glazed with sea green murenee glass, and the walls, ceiling, and blinds being of the same hue, the effect is soothing to the eyes. Wash-hand basins are fitted up, and cue cases provided for those desiring private cues. The walls are adorned with nicelyframed photographs of billiard celebrities, and is unique, as we believe the set cannot be - seen elsewhere in the colony; the names of the players are: J. Roberts (senior and junior), J._ Peall, W. Cook, and J. Bennett.' There is also a handsome tiled grate and mirror overmantel. The rooms are well lighted and gas is installed throughout. We understand the saloon is to be conducted on club lines, and be opened on June xst. The commercial or social room is to be provided with telephone, writing table, supply of papers and periodicals, chess, drafts, etc. The building is built specially strong to allow another storey to be added. The contractor, Mr Thos. Riramer, is to be congratulated on the way the work has been executed throughout. The plans were prepared by Mr. T. W. Hunt, of Wellington.
