A MAORI UNION.

Auckland, May 9. A committee representing the Maoris assembled at Waahi, after an all-night meeting, decided to lorra a union of those present to present a petition to Parliament on the subject of native grievances, failing satisfaction through that body they will send a deputation to England.

Mr Hall-Jones, Acting-Premier, has received advice from London that the swearing-in as members of the Privy Council of Sir Joseph Ward, Dr Jameson, Mr Botha, and Mr Moor took place on Thursday. It was an interesting ceremony. Besides King Edward there were present the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Connaught, the Marquis of Ripon, and a number of Privy Councillors. On Thursday evening Sir Joseph Ward was entertained at dinner by Mr Walters, proprietor of the London Times, and at midnight left for Scotland. At Edinburgh yesterday Sir Joseph had the Freedom of the City conferred upon him. Lady Ward is to launch the Union Company’s steamship Maori at Dumbarton today. ______________
