EMIGRANT SHIP LOST.
Passengers Panic-Stricken. Pakis, May 9. The French Steamer Poitlof, while voyaging from Marseilles to Buenos Ayres, was wrecked on Cape Santa Maria, during a gale. The passengers were chiefly Spanish Emigrants. Many ot them became panic-stricken and attempted to swim ashore. So far as is known at present ten persons were drowned and two hundred saved. Nearly a hundred women were battened down below at the moment of the disaster. The work of rescue is proceeding.
