At yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu Comity Council, the tramway manager reported traffic throughout the month had been satisfactory, credit balance being yd. The fortnightly meeting ot the Loyal Foxton Lodge, 1.0.0. F., was held on Tuesday night and important business transacted. An enjoyable time is being spent at the meetings whilst the lodge is in harmony. It has been decided to hold a promenade concert and dance on June sth. The Grand Lodge Communication of New Zealand Freemasons opened yesterday afternoon at Invercargill with one of the largest attendances on record. Lord Plunket was on the throne as Grand Master, supported by Past Masters P, Barron, Burton and Niccol. An old resident of Wellington, Mrs Eliza Hook, wife of' Louis Hook, of 29, Hopper street, died at her residence yesterday morning, aged sixty-seven years. The deceased, a daughter of the late Mr George Mexted, for a considerable time a sheep-farmer at Johnsonville, arrived in Wellington by the ship Lord William Bentinck, in 1841, when but twelve months old, and had resided in Wellington ever since. The leaves six daughters three sons and many grandchildren.
