FOOTBALL.
A meeting of the Management Committee of the Foxton SubUnion was held at Gray’s Post Office Hotel, on Saturday night, when there were present; Messrs (chair), R. Hines,'F - Robinson, G. Nicholson, J. McDonell (by proxy), and U. G. Sutherland (acting Sec). The minutes of the previous ordinary meetings were read and confirmed.
The resignation of Mr Find. Wanklyu was received, and Mr E. G. Sutherland was elected to the position. The matter of drawing of the fixtures took up considerable time, but finally the motion put by Mr Nicholson and seconded by Mr Robinson, That nominations be extended to Thursday, 9th May, was carried. An amendment proposed by Mr McDonell, That the fixtures be drawn up immediately, was negatived. On the motion of Messrs Nicholson and Hines, it was decided that a sub-committee be appointed to attend to the drawing of fixtures, the sub-committee to consist of the Foxton members of the Management Committee, and representatives of the outside clubs if they could attend. It was resolved that five form a quorum at a Management Committee meeting.
The Bulls delegate inquired as to gate money, and was informed that the Sub-Union took all gates-, and allowed referees expenses. On the motion of Mr Nicholson, seconded by Mr McDonell, it was resolved, That clubs be bound to accept referees appointed by the Sub-Union.
Mr F. Robinson proposed, and Mr McDonel seconded, and it was carried, That the Sub-Union Secretary be instructed to write the Manawatu Union threatening to take steps to procure insurance money due to the Foxton SubUnion players from last season. A motion that Foxton SubUnion play strictly under Manawatu R.U. rules was negatived, while an amendment that a subcommittee be appointed to frame the Sub-Union’s own by-laws, was carried. Messrs F. Robinson, W. Croucher, E. Wanklyn, G. Nicholson, and the Secretary were appointed the sub-committee to deal with the matter, this committee to meet at Sandon on the the following Saturday, when fixtures will also be drawn. Much discussion ensued as to the advisability of forming a separate insurance fund for the Sub-Union, and on the motion of the Secretary, seconded by Mr Nicholson, it was decided that such should be done. The following conditions were drawn up in connection with the scheme:
1. Each team (not club) shall subscribe ios 6cl to the fund, and each playing member who wishes to become insured shall pay as 6d to his club’s secretary, who shall forward full name and fee to the Sub-Union Secretary. 2. All names must be in the hands of the Union Secretary or referee prior to any cup or representative match being played.
3. Any playing member injured who is not on the books of the Union as financial, shall not be entitled to any benefit whatever. 4. The Foxton Sub - Union will be liable for compensation to any player injured in any cup or Union representative matches, whose name is on the Union books as follows ; (a) £1 per week payable on the Secretary receiving a medical certificate within one week of the date of injury ; (b) the extent of liability will cease at the expiration of six weeks, at which period his name shall be struck off as having received full compensation for that injury.
Note.—A triplicate receipt book will be sent to the secretary of each club, and it will be necessary to make separate entries—one copy to be sent to the Secretary of the Union—one given to the player making the payment —and the other kept by the secretary of the club.
It was decided that the senior competition commence on Saturday, May 18th. After other minor business, votes of thanks to the Chair and to Messrs Gray, and Sutherland and Rough for use of rooms, the meeting closed. NOTES. The Foxton Sub-Union meant business on Saturday night last, for alter deliberating over football matters until licensed closing hours they' had to adjourn to Messrs Sutherland and Rough’s, and it was long after midnight before business concluded. The insurance scheme published elsewhere should be well supported by players. The secretary informs us that booklets will shortly be issued containing official members, by-laws relating to Foxton SubUnion, fixtures for the season, insurance scheme, etc.
Mr Geo. Coley has presented a cup lor football competition.
